                                                               With the French windsurfer in Gran Canaria

Hey,

I have spent 10 days in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. I trained with Nathalie from Switzerland and Didier her coach. We had pretty good sailing conditions during the training : massive waves coming right from the ocean, the sea was pretty chaotic, the wind was varying a lot in intensity (from 8 to 15 knots). All in all it was difficult to sail in those conditions but very interesting. We worked hard on our technique.

During the regatta, we didnt have so much luck though. The wind was weak and extremely unstable in direction. We only had 4 races in 4 days !! Not much ! I dont end up very well in the overall rankings (13th) but i am glad with my feelings on the boat, with my speed and my technique. Tactics was difficult as the wind was showing up a bit everywhere at any time on the racing area. Very difficult to read the wind and to anticipate. I was not often in the right place at the good time which means i didnt have good races (15, 11, 14, 11).

Now, i am heading back to France. I have a break from laser sailing. I will concentrate mostly on my physical training (cross country skiing, bike, squash, cardio, etc ..). My next event will be in Miami : my 1st regatta for the 2010 World Cup. We’ll come there a week earlier to do some training.

                                                                    With Nath on the motor boat

J’ai passe une dizaine de jours aux Canaries, a Las Palmas. Je me suis entrainee avant la regate sur place avec Nathalie la suissesse et Didier son entraineur. On a eu des belles conditions avec de tres grosses vagues venant de l’ocean. La mer était assez désordonnée, et le vent était + ou – régulier en intensité (entre 8 et 15 nœuds). Ca rendait les conditions tres difficiles mais tres intéressantes. On a bien bosse techniquement.

Pour la regate, on a eu moins de chance car le vent a ete beaucoup + faible. Le vent avait du mal a s’installer et bougeait beaucoup en direction. Du coup, nous avons pu faire seulement 4 manches en 4 jours. C’est peu. Je ne finis pas tres bien au général (13eme) mais je suis contente de mes sensations dans le bateau, de ma technique et de ma vitesse. J’avais bosse des trucs a l’entrainement que j’ai réussi a mettre en place en regate donc c’est positif. Par contre tactiquement, c’etait pas évident. Le vent était tres instable et inconstant. Je n’etais pas tout le temps au bon endroit d’ou ces mauvaises places (15, 11, 14, 11). Le 1^er jour, on fait 2 manches, et la j’ai pris une option a gauche qui paraissait bonne et dont je croyais, mais le retour a ete + difficile que prevu avec une grosse rentrée d’air a droite. Peut être aussi du retard sur le coup juste apres le départ. L’avant dernier jour, on fait 2 manches et ce jour la, j’ai mis du temps a me positionner pour prendre le 1^er coup. Ces longueurs perdues étaient difficilement récupérables par la suite.

Maintenant retour en France. Je fais un break bateau jusqu'à Miami. Je vais essentiellement me concentrer sur ma préparation physique pour arriver en pleine forme a la Rolex OCR fin Janvier. On se rendra sur place 1 semaine avant le début de l’epreuve pour s’entrainer.

En attendant, vélo, ski de fond, squash, cardio, gainage et circuits trainings !

Hey,

I have had 2 weeks of training after our nationals. I stayed between Saint Raphael and Antibes, training at home. First week, i sailed in St Raphael where Lionel lives. We had morning sessions, i was alone sailing. It was great, we had very good weather, and nice winds.
Then this week, we trained in Antibes, my hometown. We were 7 of us. The youth boys from the sailing center, Amelie a youth girl from Brest, and Pierre from Cannes. We had very early sessions. Waking up at 6am every morning, going out on the water at 7am. It's nice to see the sunrise while training though ... The lights were magic in the early mornings, very clear sky, it was not tooo cold and i could see snow on the mountains just behind ! Perfect start of the days !!
We sailed with the night breeze, and had downwind sessions for hours. Then after 3 or 4 hours, the wind was very light, or even dying, and we would get a tow (a long tow) back in. We had a very consistent and productive week, good winds, great exercises, original ones sometimes ..
One afternoon, i took Lionel's rib, and went to Nice with Amelie to watch the Louis Vuitton Trophy. It's 20 minuts boat's driving from Antibes. The Americas Cup boats are racing here in Nice for 2 weeks. It was great to see those boats racing. The wind was a bit light but we got to watch 2 matches.
Tomorrow, i am flying to Quiberon for a week for a camp with the other sailors of the Olympic Campaign. I heard it was stormy weather, very strong winds, rain rain, and lower temperatures ... brrrr !

Hello,

Depuis Hourtin, j'ai eu 2 semaines d'entrainements dans les parrages. Je suis restee entre St Raphael et Antibes. La 1ere semaine a St Raph ou Lionel habite. On naviguait le matin, les conditions etaient top, j'etais seule a m'entrainer et on a fait du bon boulot.
Apres, cette semaine, on s'est entraine a Antibes. On etait 7. Il y avait les jeunes du Pole d'Antibes, Amelie de Brest qui etait avec moi aux Jeux Med, et Pierre Gueguen de Cannes. On a navigue tres tot les matins pour profiter de la brise de nuit. Levers tous les jours a 6h du mat' pour mettre a l'eau a 7h !!! Waouuu ... C'etait super de voir le lever du soleil pendant l'entrainement. Les lumieres etaient splendides avec un ciel tres clair et degage, il ne faisait pas trop froid et y avait de la neige (un peu) sur les montagnes juste derriere. C'etait juste magnifique. Parfait pour commencer la journee !
On profitait donc de la brise de nuit pour faire des seances de vent arriere. Vers 11h-12h, le vent tombait franchement. Et on rentrait a la remorque. On a eu une semaine super interessante, plein de situations au contact, c'etait tres productif, a terre comme sur l'eau. Les conditions etaient au top, un peu matinal mais ... tres bien.
Une apres midi, j'ai pique le zod de Lionel pour aller a Nice voir les bateaux de la Coupe de l'America. Il y a le Louis Vuitton Trophy en ce moment. C'est a 20 minutes en zod d'Antibes donc on en a profite. Il n'y avait pas beaucoup de vent mais on a eu la chance de voir 2 matchs !!

Demain je prends l'avion pour Quiberon car on a un stage Equipe de France la haut avec tous les autres voileux de l'Equipe. Ils annoncent du vent tres fort, tempete, pluie pluie .. et des temperatures bien + froides que chez moi .. brrr ..

Hi !

I spent more than a week in Maubuisson and then Hourtin for a training camp followed by the national. We trained in Maubuisson, south of the lake in light winds, with a big fleet of talented youth sailors .. - Damned, i feel soo old now !! -  .. Then we moved from Maubuisson to Hourtin (north of the lake) for the regatta.
We took one day off to bike around the lake, 70kms which was good !
Concerning the regatta, we were supposed to have a 4 days event .. but the forecast decided something else. We had 0 knot for the first 3 days, not even a gust, nothing, glassy .. amazing ! So we spent all of our afternoon at the ocean, surfing, running and playing rakets on the beach .. Then the last day, we had to complete 4 races to valid the regatta which means that the comittee sent us out on the water at 7.30am !! Ah ah ah .. That's no joke. It was still dark, and windy too .. We had 4 races. I finished 6th overall with the boys. I did some mistakes on my downwind's tactics, and i also got pushed in the pin-end boat at the start of the last race. I stayed there, stucked in the pin boat for 3 minuts, with my boat getting smashed by others !! Great !
After an all night driving in the stormy rain, i am having some days off before some more training between St Raphael and Antibes.

Next event will be Las Palmas, Gran Canaria beginning of December.

J'ai passe une dizaine de jours entre Maubuisson et Hourtin. D'abord en stage a Maubuisson avec une belle flotte de jeunes voileux talentueux. Mon Dieu, je commence a me sentir vieille au milieu de tous ces jeunes ! Et puis ensuite, nous sommes montes + au nord du lac, a Hourtin, pour le national. On a pris un jour pour faire du velo. On a fait 70 km autour du lac.
Pour en revenir a la regate, on etait cense avoir 4 jours de compet, mais la meteo en a decide autrement. Les 3 premiers jours, il y a eu 0 noeud. Pas meme une petite risee, rien, quedalle, lac d'huile ! Hallucinant. On a donc passe nos apres midi a l'ocean, a surfer, courir et faire des raquettes. Le dernier jour, le comite devait donc faire 4 manches pour valider la regate. Il nous a donc envoye a l'eau a 7h30 du mat'. Il faisait encore nuit, et il y avait du vent. On a fait nos 4 manches, je finis 6eme au general. Pas genial, mais j'ai fait des erreurs tactiquement au vent arriere, et puis je me suis aussi fait envoyer dans le viseur sur le depart de la derniere manche. Je suis restee scotchee au viseur pendant 3 minutes a taper dans tous les sens. D'autres bateaux me rentraient dedans, genial !!
Apres un retour long en camion (toute la nuit), j'ai quelques jours de repos avant de reprendre les entrainements entre St Raph et Antibes pour les prochaines semaines.

La prochaine regate sera aux Canaries, a Las Palmas, debut Decembre.

Hi !

We had a training camp in Brest for a few days. It was very interesting sailing (especially for the tactic) for me as most of the boats were Standards. We had a lot of tight situations, and i had to anticipate to find the good spot to be ... the boys are sailing a little bit faster, so it made it difficult for the few Radials (4 of us) but i liked it.
We had very good weather (no rain, and some blue sky at times which is not very commun at this time of the year in Brest) and little breeze everyday. Not much but just enough to sail, train and race !
I would like to thank Brest sailing center who warmely welcomed us, and also Lionel and Rene for their coaching.

Next is Hourtin for the national with a training camp before that.

Bonjour !

Nous etions sur Brest pour quelques jours pour un stage. C'etait tres interessant pour moi sur le plan tactique car la plupart des bateaux etaient des Standards. Nous avons eu beaucoup de situations de contact, tres serrees ou il fallait anticiper les placements par rapport aux adversaires et les mouvements de flotte. Les garcons en Standards avancent un peu + vite que nous donc ca rend la chose un peu + compliquee pour nous les Radials. Mais j'ai reussi a faire de bons coups et j'ai bien aime !
En +, on a eu du beau temps (pas gagne a Brest a cette periode) et une petite brise tous les jours. Pas enorme mais juste ce qu'il faut pour naviguer et s'entrainer.
Je voudrais remercier le pole de Brest pour nous avoir accueillis pendant ces quelques jours, ainsi que Lionel et Rene pour l'entrainement qu'ils ont mis en place.

La prochaine etape est Hourtin pour le national, avec un stage avant la regate.

Hey !
For the 1st time, i had the chance to sail in "Les Voiles de Saint Tropez", one of the biggest event for the old boats, and also for the Wally and all the big modern yachts ! I was sailing with a very nice crew on an old wooden boat called Isis. Jerome the physio was onboard too. We have had mostly light winds, blowing up a bit each afternoon which made the races exciting ! We were racing in the bay of Saint Tropez.
I will put pictures to show you how big and nice were the boats around !! It was a magnificient show on the water !
Now i am back into my physical training, before heading to Brest next week for the Navy.
My training in the radial will start after that.

Bonjour !
Pour la 1ere fois, j'ai eu l'occasion de regater aux Voiles de St Tropez, l'une des + grosses regates pour les vieux greements ainsi que pour d'extraordinaires voiliers modernes tels les Wally (de toutes tailles). Pour ma part, je naviguais sur un vieux greement appele Isis. Jerome le kine de l'Equipe etait a bord aussi. Nous avons eu majoritairement du petit temps, et la brise se levait a chaque fois dans l'apres midi ! Les parcours etaient dans la baie de St Trop !
Je vais mettre des photos en ligne pour vous donner un petit gout du spectacle sur l'eau. Les anciens bateaux etaient magnifiques !
Maintenant, je reprends la prepa physique, avant d'aller sur Brest la semaine prochaine pour l'Armee.
Les entrainements sur l'eau en radial commenceront apres l'Armee.

Hey !

I finished 4th at Sail for Gold regatta in Weymouth. I am pleased with the results eventhough i could have taken a medal on the last day in the medal race.
Before entering the medal race, i was 4th overall, 4 points behind the 3rd S. Steyaert from France, and 5 points behind Marit from the Netherlands.
I had to beat both of them to pass them in the overall rankings : i needed one boat between me and Sarah S., and 2 boats between me and Marit. But it didnt work. I didnt have the best start and then a puff came more on the left side, where i was not. Then i caught up a lot and i was sailing in the middle of the fleet, so everything was possible. But Sarah S. and Marit managed to stay in front of me ..
From 5th to 10th, we almost all arrived in the same time on the finishing line. It was sooooo closed that the race committee struggled to say who finished in which position. They have done a mistake with my place in the medal race though. For sure i didnt finish 9th, i was 6th or 7th. For exemple, Evi Van Acker from Belgium was overlapped with me but clearly behind me in the finish, we were by the committee boat and the line was favoured at the committee boat. They put her 8th. Anyway, it didnt change anything for the overall results so i didnt protest the committee.
I eventually stayed in 4th ... And if i look behind me, i can be proud of my summer results : Med Games, World Champs, Military World Champs, and Sail for Gold regatta in the venue of the 2012 Olympic Games ! :)

We had a very long trip back home. 30 hours with ferry and driving.
This week will be more relaxing. I have to pick up my new boats in Marseille and have to go to Paris for a day for a media thing. Then, i am sailing "Les Voiles de Saint Tropez" on an old wooden boat. It will be a fun experience !!

Bonjour,

Je finis donc 4eme de la Sail for Gold Regatta a Weymouth, site des prochains J.O 2012. Je suis satisfaite de ce resultat, meme si j'aurai pu aller chercher une medaille le dernier jour en medal race. Ceci dit, c'est de tres bon augure pour la suite. J'ai bien aime le plan d'eau, tres technique avec cette mer dans tous les sens qui rendait la conduite difficile. Et le plan d'eau souvent cisaille qui demande beaucoup d'observation et de reflexion.
Avant d'entrer en medal race, j'etais 4eme a 4 points de la 3eme, et a 5 points de la 2eme. Donc il fallait que je batte les 2 filles devant moi pour les doubler au general, mais sous certaines conditions : intercaler 1 bateau entre moi et la 3eme, et intercaler 2 bateaux entre moi et la 2eme du general. Malheureusement, je n'ai pas reussi.
Je n'ai pas pris le meilleur depart. Une pression est rentree sur la gauche extreme, j'etais trop centree pour la toucher et des ecarts se sont un peu creuses. Puis je suis bien revenue dans le match en milieu de flotte. Mais Marit et Sarah S. ont reussi a rester devant moi et a conserver leur place pour le general.
Je termine donc 4eme.
Ceci dit, les resultats de la medal race sont errones. Il est certain que je ne termine pas 9eme comme il est indique sur la feuille de resultats. Mais plutot 6eme, voir 7eme au pire des cas. Entre la 5eme et la 10eme, c'etait extrement serre. Le comite de course a eu du mal a departager les bateaux sur la ligne d'arrivee d'ailleurs. Mais ce qui est sur, c'est que je finis devant la belge Evi Van Acker qui est classee 8eme. Elle etait engagee a mon vent, mais clairement derriere moi. On etait au bateau comite, la ligne d'arrivee favorable au bateau comite. Ils m'ont mis derriere elle. Bref, ceci ne change rien pour le classement final car la 2eme et la 3eme finissent devant moi sur la medal race. Donc ca ne servait a rien que je reclame contre le comite pour un redress.
Au final je suis 4eme !!! Et si je fais un recapitulatif de mon ete, je peux etre fiere de mes resultats : Jeux Med, Championnat du Monde, Championnat du Monde Militaire, Sail for Gold Regatta sur le site des J.O de 2012 !! :)

On est rentre hier soir tres tard apres un tres long voyage de 30 heures partagees entre le ferry et le camion.
La semaine qui arrive est plus cool. Je vais aller chercher mes bateaux neufs au chantier a Marseille, et je monte a Paris 1 journee pour un interview avec la presse specialisee.
La semaine prochaine, je navigue sur les "Voiles de Saint Tropez" a bord 'un vieux greement. Ca va etre une experience sympa ....

Hey !

I have been in Weymouth for a week and a half now. We arrived here a bit earlier to do some training and the regatta started 3 days ago. I have had 2 first good days. I am lying 2nd overall behind Sari from Finland. Today the races have been cancelled due to strong winds. But weirdly the 49ers are racing and not the Lasers ... strange !
We have 3 more days of racing, 2 normal days and Saturday is for the medal race !
I haven't done much laser sailing since the Worlds (more than a month ago) so i felt a bit rusty in my boat the last 2 days. Rounding marks, hiking in a 1h10 race ... he he .. not easy ! But i feel i improve a bit race after race.
Yesterday i capsized twice though, the wind was very strong at times, big big gusts !! I capsized on the last reach of the 1st race 2 boat's length before the finishing line !!! It was a nice present for Marit from Holland who passed me easy !! This is one mistake among the others .. ah ah ah ...

Je suis a Weymouth depuis 1 semaine et demi. Nous sommes arrives ici un peu avant pour s'entrainer sur le site. La regate a debute lundi. J'ai eu 2 premiers jours corrects puisque je suis 2eme au general ce soir. Derriere Sari la finlandaise. Par contre aujourd'hui ca a ete annule car le vent est trop fort .. Ceci dit, les 49ers sont dehors en train de faire des manches et pas nous les Lasers ... un peu etrange !!
On a encore 3 jours de regate, 2 jours normaux et samedi prevu pour la medal race.

Depuis le mondial au Japon (y a plus d'un mois), je n'ai quasi pas navigue en Laser donc la je me sentais un peu "rouillee" sur mon bateau. L'enroulement des marques, faire du rappel pendant 1h10 par manche ... bref .. pas facile. Mais je sens que je retrouve mes marques petit a petit.

Hier j'ai quand meme chavire 2 fois. Il y avait vraiment fort comme vent par moments. J'ai notamment chavire a 2 longueurs de la ligne d'arrivee, laissant une belle chance a la hollandaise Marit de me doubler ! J;etais en tete ... mais une grosse risee m'a retournee le bateau .... lol .. voila une des mes "conneries" d'hier ...

Our team finished 3rd at the military world sailing championship. We were leading the fleet before the last 3 races so we are a bit disappointed with the final result, but we could have lost a spot on the podium too, so we are glad to bring back bronze from Poland. Wind was light and shifty on the last day. We didnt have a lot of luck either ... Well done to Ukraine for taking the world title, and to Turkey who got silver.
Next military sailing world champs will be held in Barhein in March 2010 (in the match race).
I am now staying a week at home, picking up my boats in Marseille, etc .. before heading to Weymouth south of England next weekend. Training camp and then Sail for Gold regatta.

Bonjour,
Notre equipage a finalement termine 3eme du championnat du monde militaire. On etait en tete avant le dernier jour, on est forcement un peu decu du resultat final, mais on aurait pu perdre beaucoup + et ne pas avoir de medaille. Donc revenir de Pologne avec le bronze est tout de meme une satisfaction. Le dernier jour, on a eu du petit temps, tres oscillant et aleatoire. On n'a pas eu beaucoup de reussite non plus, ...
Felicitations aux equipages ukrainiens et turcs pour avoir remporte respectivement l'Or et l'Argent.
Le prochain championnat du monde militaire sera au Barhein en mars prochain (et en match race).
Je suis de retour pour une semaine chez moi, je dois aller recuperer du materiel a Marseille et m'organiser pour Weymouth. Je repars le weekend prochain. Stage d'entrainement puis la Sail for Gold regatta.

Hi !
After Japan, i had a 10 days holidays in Croatia and Greece. That was good to relax a bit after all the events i have competed in June and July. Now, i am in Poland for the military world champs. We sail on strange boats called Omega but its good fun. Billy Besson and Nicolas Pauchet are sailing with me.
Today is the last day and we are currently leading the fleet, but points are really closed. Ukraine is 2nd 1 point behind us, and equal with the Turkish team. The Brasilians are also not far from the podium so the next 3 races are going to be exciting. But right now, we are all on shore, waiting for the wind ...
I will be back home on Saturday for a week, and then i will head to Weymouth, England, for a training camp which will be follow by the world cup event regatta Sail for Gold.
