hey !
today 2 more races. same wind, a bit less swell, and good breeze (a bit less than yesterday but still) .. i had a 5th and 11th. i moved up to 3rd overall which is not too bad !
in the 1st race, i had a shit start, far away from the committee boat. but i managed to catch up all along the race. so i was glad with that. though, i am a bit disappointed with my 2nd race. i had a great start, tacked off to the right side quite quickly, so it was looking good. but then i didnt go enough to the right side of the beat. the boats who did passed me. i was around 10-12 at the 1st mark and didnt really catch up.
we have 2 more days of finals .. exciting ! i am ready to give my best on these next 4 races. i have nothing to loose, i just want to have fun and enjoy the races !!!
speak to you tomorrow, with good news again !!!!
sophie
Hey !
2 races for the last day of the qualifying series .. and i had 2 wins !! yeaaaah !! Thats great !
Tomorrow the finals start, the fleet is split into 2 groups : Gold and Silver.
Tonight i am lying 4th overall. Points are really closed. So the racing in the Gold fleet is gonna be interesting i guess ... it will go faster, the fleet will be more compact ... Looking forward to it !
I will give my best and enjoy the next races !!!
Next update tomorrow, until then, good night !
Sophie :)
Hey !
2 races today in a 12 knots breeze for the 1st race. Then 16-18 knots in the 2nd race. The swell was very big and coming from the side on port so technically it was very difficult. I was not from the first boats to go to the right side of the course so i struggled a bit. The right side paid off ... I managed to be around 13-15 though which was ok, but then got a yellow flag from the jury on the last reach before the finish. So i lost some more places to end the 1st race 19th.
In the 2nd, the wind was blowing more. I had very good speed but again, it took me some time to go to the right side and i was only 10-12 at the top mark. I managed to catch up on the 2nd beat and the rest of the race to pass the finish line in 6th position.
My day was not soooo good today, ...
I am lying 7th overall tonight. Its tight with the points between the girls because every girl (except Anna from USA) had already a bad race.
Tomorrow is our last day of qualifying series. Then 3 days of finals !!! Yihaaaaaa, thats gonna be fun !!!
Til tomorrow,
:) Sophie
Hey everyone !
today was the 1st day of the World Champs in Japan. We went out on the water and waited a bit for the wind to settle in. Then they sent us in a light breeze. There was also a big swell, so it was not easy conditions .. but i did a great job. I posted an 8th and a 2nd in both races today, which put me 6th overall tonight.
I am disappointed with the results because i was leading the 2nd race and the spanish girl Susanna passed me just in the end. In the 1st race i caught to 5th after a very good downwind, but then lost 3 places on the last reach !! In the end, its a good day, but i could have had less points tonight. Thats why i feel angry .. but now, its done and tomorrow is a new day with new races .. !!!! :-D
Til tomorrow for new update,
Sophie
Bonjour !
A demain pour les prochaines nouvelles,
Sophie
Hey !
European championship is now over !! I had a very good race and a bad one again yesterday in the last day of the finals. It seemed like i had a good and a bad one almost every day ! I ended the regatta with a 4th in the gold fleet. I sailed smart upwind (and it was tough conditions with big shifts) and also fast downwind which let me catch up some more places. I am not too down about the final result (21st overall and 18th european) because i have done great things. So it looks good before the Worlds.
I arrived home today and i am off to Japan on Tuesday. Just a few days at home to wash my clothes, rest, etc ...
The World Championship will be held in Karatsu, 1 hour drive from Fukuoka. Never been to Japan so i am excited !!
The 1st race of the regatta will start on the 28th of July.
Til next update from Japan ...
Sophie
Hey !
In the qualifying series, i had very good races, some bad ones included a 2nd BFD .. which sucks, because if we dont race tomorrow (last day, we can reach 10 races), it means there is only 1 discard, and that doesnt help me, i need 2 discards !!
Yesterday, we stayed onshore for the whole day, there was no wind on the course area and a lot of current too. In the evening, we took the rubber boat to go to Copenhagen for dinner. That was nice to go there by the sea, and mooring the boat right in the middle of the town !
Today was the 1st day of final. We started with a race which was abandonned 1h30min after the start. We were actually still sailing on the 2nd beat when they cancelled. It was light wind and a LOT of current, something amazing. So we struggled to move forward ! I was deep in the back of the fleet, eventhough i caught up many places on that 2nd beat (maybe around 25). Then the commiittee sent us close to the shore to race in less current. We had 2 races and the wind increased a bit, so it helped to sail against the current. In the 1st race i got stuck on the left side and ended up really bad at the 1st top mark, then caught up to the finish to end 27th. In the 2nd race, i managed to take a start where i could tack to the right side, and things went easier. I was around 10 at the 1st top mark, and caught up more boats on the downwind and the beat to finish 6th. So its an average day today, i am a bit angry with my 1st race because i knew what i was doing was not good !!!
Tomorrow is the last day of the championship. I will give my best for the last 2 races. Gold fleet final counts double point, everything goes fast and if you make a small mistake you can get a lot of points very quickly !
Wish me luck,
Sophie
Hey
Europeans have started yesterday. It could have been better in term of results, but i did good things, so i am also happy .. Its a mix of good and frustrating feelings.
The 1st day we had medium winds, and shifty too ! In the 1st race, i finished 3rd, and sailed fast and smart ! But when i get back onshore, i noticed i was BFD ! :( In the 2nd race, i had a bad start and then i sturggled most of the race in the very back of the fleet, top 15 from the back ... but managed in the end to catch up a lot of places .. to end up 16th. My downwind was great and last little beat too !
Then today, we had 2 races, in some building breeze in the 1st race, and with stronger wind in the 2nd one. In the 1st race, I was coming good to the 1st top mark (in the top 5), but missed the last shift 60 meters from the mark and lost many places. Then i was around 15-20 and fucked up my 2nd beat .... I was frustrated and not focused on what i had to do. I lost places again on that beat, but managed to catch up again downwind to finish 14th.
Our 2nd race was windier and i really wanted to do well because so far i was often closed to do great things but always something happened ... I had a good start and a good speed all the way through the race, managed to get the shifts right, and the waves too .. I won that race in front of Sari. Very happy :) and finally i have a good race counting for the overall !!
Tonight i am lying 25th which is bad, i know .. but i will try to do my best tomorrow and the next days to move up in the overall rankings !
Bed time, need to be in good shape for tomorrow ...
Til next updates,
Sophie
Hey,
I won Gold medal at the Med Games in Italy last week. :))
We had very intense, long and busy days over there. We arrived earlier to train a bit and to go to the Opening ceremony too. The regatta lasted 8 days. We had very light winds every single days. That was mentally tiring, because we had to wait a lot for the wind to blow, it was very hot. We had many races cancelled too ... And the races we did were also bloody long !!! So, all in all, it was a stressful event but i managed to finish at the top and i am very glad with my result.
Tina Mihelic from Croatia came 2nd, Susanna Romero from Spain 3rd and Francesca Clapcich from Italy 4th.
JB won in the men's fleet too .. So it was 100% french Gold in the laser class. Sweeet !
We managed to go and see other sports too : swimmers, beach volley, hand ball, etc ... And we got to meet other athletes, which was nice !
Then we stayed for the closing ceremony on the last day. I was bearing the flag .. so proud !! Walking in the streets of Pescara for the parade with the flag and the athletes behind me !!! he he he
Bonjour,
J'ai gagne la medaille d'Or aux Jeux Med en Italie la semaine derniere !! :)
Notre sejour a ete assez intense.
Trop bon !
Hey !
Above, training in Antibes before the Med Games
I am in Italy right now. The Med Games are on, we have been here for a week. The regatta started last sunday and we still have 2 more days of racing. We have had very light breeze so far. We havent managed to complete all the races scheduled so far. It's light breeze and current since the beginning. I am sailing fast, smooth and smart, i am quite happy with the way the regatta started. I am leading the fleet, with Tina Mihelic from Croatia in 2nd place, and Susanna Romero from Spain in 3rd, and Francesca Clapcich from Italy in 4th.
We are all staying at the olympic village, there are many athletes. So its nice to meet people from other sports. We went to watch the swimming competition, and beach volley too. Swimmers look amazing, its probably a tough sport to practice, ... but very nice to watch and cheer for the French ! We were there to see the 400m womem freestyle world record !! Ok, time for bed because we are early every morning !
Still 2 more days .... wish me luck !
Sophie
Opening ceremony with Mathilde !
Bonsoir !
Encore 2 jours .... souhaitez moi bonne chance !
Sophie
